    Large broods mean a very predatory environment with high death rates. There is a reason why the Horrats aren't apex predators (the Horraines rule) in Africa but are on the break off island of Lemuria the Horrats are top bat.

    We really need more mammalian based monsters I think. I know we’re working with wyverns as a base and they give the impression of being purely scaled creatures, but I feel like a solid wolf/big cat based monster would present an interesting new concept (particularly if they create a new class for them like furred-wyvern). Also we should totally get a snake. Just like a big ass snake. Like titanaboa type thing.

    Personally I think WWZ was already an excellent novel, and after Covid its even more poignant. Max Brooks predicted literally exactly how the world would handle a pandemic. America lies until it’s too late, China hides it similarly, Russia barely hangs by a thread. The communist countries do best. They pump out vaccines they hope will work but realistically are as much “get back to work” placebo as they are actually medicine.

    id say jhos weird mouth is meant to work kind of like a battering ram, a meat tenderizer headed brute, most of his move set consists of reeling back and then just slamming his toothy face into you, maybe the irregular tooth arrangement is meant to distribute the force and maximize trauma in a way. He's basically a tube of muscle, especially his neck and is very robust so can probably support such a function, the corroding saliva is probably to aid in digestion a bit after prey is battered to death

    • @Lord_of_Snels
      @Lord_of_Snels 2 дня назад

      but it is odd that they added SO MANY more teeth to new jho, it probably is an inbreeding thing because old world jhos have even rows and a relatively normal looking upper jaw with only one row of teeth

    Other things to keep in mind.. 1. A persistence hunting predator may purposefully target the largest prey animals with the most impressive horns/antlers. Such prey animals have more mass too move and would likely become exhausted more quickly. 2. Predatory animals outside of insects, fish, and small reptiles, never have horns or spikes. Horns are primarily for intraspecies combat over territory or mating rights. Predators already have teeth and claws and have no need to invest further in large, heavy, horns or spikes to engage in combat. 3. Claws do not slice or cut. They can only puncture, grip, and rip. Nature is good at making claws with sharp points, not so much with sharp edges. 4. Predators do not begin a hunt by roaring at their prey. Not unless they specifically want the prey to run in order to exhaust it for an easier kill. 5. Predators don't hunt things that are just as likely to kill them as they are to kill it. 6. There is no such thing as "bleed damage" or a hunting strategy of injuring an animal and then waiting for it to bleed to death. That's not a real hunting strategy and never has been. That isn't too say that every once in a while a prey animal doesn't bleed to death, but that is never the intended hunting strategy of the predator. And the larger the prey animal, the more difficult it becomes for them to bleed to death. By the time you get to something that weighs several tons, it may be almost impossible for them to bleed to death as the wound is likely to close before the animal loses enough blood to die. This is because the bigger an animal gets, the more volume they have compared to surface area, meaning they have more blood for their size than smaller animals, and would need to lose more blood than they can possibly spill in order to die.

    Since you don't have, and prolly wont make unless forced to by a drought in content, a video about Magnamalo, i'll say it here. But i hate Nergigante and how it embodies the catering towards mainstream appeal that started with World. Nerg literally looks like the dragons i used to draw as a 5 year old and his lore also sounds as if a lil kid made it. "The inmortal dragon of death that punches really hard and kills all the other strongest dragons and he eats them and he has spikes and it hurts to touch him" like, come on, dude. And while it works for people who take MH on its face value, it just pisses me off beyond belief, and Rise having some of the most unique designs the series has seen in a while yet being tarnished by Nergigante's "rule of cool" hurts the series greatly. Magnamalo is the perfect example cuz it had aaaaall the potential in the world to be just as cool as Goss Harag, but it chose to be the bastard song of Zinogre and Nergigante. Magnamalo's concept is a lot more thoughts out than Nerg in the sense that it's a plate armored Samurai Tiger, and while it's edgy as fuck, it's design is actually interesting to look at. The problem arises when they didn't really think about Magnamalo ecologically, just mythically, and he feels out of place. Also his design focused more into giving him spikes and blades rather than making him look like he has armor, so as you said in the video he looks fat. He looks fat cuz the blades in his body look like Nergigante's spikes rather than an outer plate of armor. 2 things could had greatly saved Magnamalo's design: 1) Making it sleek as a panther or a real tiger, and making his blades the equalizer in ecology as to make up for his lack of bodymass. Like a non flying Nargacuga. 2) Doubleing down on the Samurai side and making Magnamalo bulky as fuck, kind of like the new dog monster in wilds except Magna would reach said mass through the implementation of protrusions that actually resemble armor pieces and heavy plating. Ecologically, Magnamalo being a regular monster rather than an elder hurts him deeply cuz he doesn't feel like a normal animal at all and if anything, he looks more like an elder than other elders like Teostra or Kushala if you were to strip them off their weather control. Also as you pointed out, Elders already struggle to fit ecologically so it would be more forgivable since expectations are lower. While unlike, i hope you'd take the time to read this and tell me, specially if you disagree. For i love your vision of the series and your speculations veing grounded on real ecology.

    I always thought brachydios uses less slime against small annoying target(the hunter) as a way to save some energy and have an area denial advantage against nimble hunters. Then, fighting bigger target using their "angered mode", when the slime explodes almost on contact to be effective and quickly be done with a risky fight. Seeing the nose and jaws, looks like it could immobilise a prey with a bite, cover it with saliva before punching it away or while being held. Sadly, no document talks about it, just me interpreting my MHtri gameplay as a kid.

    I'd like to point out that Gammoth as an excellent food source for Tigrex extends beyond predation and into scavenging as well. Dispersing Gammoth and solitary bulls may indeed be at more risk of predation, but far more critically, they're more likely to suffer natural mortality. Our fossils of mammoths in the real world are incredibly male-biased because males were so much more likely to die, and to die in ways that lent themselves well to fossilization. A slip in muddy terrain or a fall into deep waters could be survived by females with a herd to pull them out or help them recover, but for males, it more often than not spelled doom. Solitary Gammoth undoubtedly would suffer similar fates with similar frequency. It's entirely possible that Tigrex might forego hunting a Gammoth entirely depending on conditions but still follow it around-- a bull in peak condition may be immune to predation, but it is not immune to nature's wrath, and when that occurs, it leaves a bountiful scavenge too good to pass up. Even if it doesn't die, a solitary Gammoth, even in peak condition, that becomes bogged down in mud may suddenly lose its immunity to predation due to the difficulty moving.

    Some brainstorms: We can have period movies form monster universes like how Godzilla rage across time comics handled the story. Even maybe what if scenarios where we can explore different topics with underaged 20-40 min shorts (like Star Wars Visions) even with different art styles, we can have independent non Godzilla movies (maybe more for Toho) where classic monsters have minus one treatment and try to retell the topics covered in their source material. Monsterverse can have a pandemic movie cause by meganulas and megaguirus fleeing from hollow earth from rodan. Maybe hollow earth plants that make their way to the surface (kaiju poops) and have breeding activities that destroy cities (like legion plant in gamera 2) and mothra or other kaijus need to deal with it. A titan experiencing overcharge and starts contaminating earth with radiation (burning Godzilla topic but with other monsterverse monsters). Make the monarch timeline into movies or series (mothra discovery, rodan temple etc):

I may have my own issues with martin but his writing is superb and going "bbut it's not as good as tolkein" doesnt mean anything. a question I've always had, which will likely never have a true answer and go more into headcanon, is how many of these quests actually happen. A lot of them I could imagine being non-canon and existing purely for the players benefit, especially a lot of the challenge quests that show up as free dlc. With a lot of monster hunter games I see most stuff after the credits as entirely non-canon, with a non-game version of these stories probably being much smaller in scope and more about exceptionally skilled individuals helping their community and the environment alike. Although that is purely a personal interpretation, I also imagine not every hunt would result in an actual kill and I'd expect more capture or scare goals for quests just relocating a monster in an area that harms both it and the player. Monster hunter also seems to have some degree of magic-like elements, especially in terms of how extreme biology can get, so perhaps rapid mutation and evolution creating new invasives on a non-geologic timescale is more of a feasible occurrence. All that said, I enjoy how you apply this kind of lens to such a creative and silly franchise
